Bitstream Inc. Names Anna Chagnon President
Former Bitstream President Paul Trevithick will focus his efforts on Pageflex

CAMBRIDGE, MA - July 12, 2000 - Bitstream today officially announced the appointment of Anna M. Chagnon as President of Bitstream to run Bitstream's type and technology business. Ms. Chagnon succeeds Paul Trevithick as President of Bitstream. Mr. Trevithick will continue to serve as President of Pageflex, Inc., a subsidiary of Bitstream that focuses on on-demand marketing software and represents the Company's other principal business.

"Both our Bitstream and Pageflex businesses are in a position to expand over the next year and take advantage of new and emerging markets," said Charles Ying, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Bitstream. "Since both businesses have different strategies and markets, the Board believed it was time to have one individual devoted to the success of each of our business lines so both could receive the focused attention they deserve."

"I have every confidence in Anna's ability to manage Bitstream's type and technology business, because for more than a year this has been her main focus, and she's been doing a tremendous job. This announcement recognizes her accomplishment over the past year in turning the type and technology business into a profitable, growing business," said Mr. Trevithick.

Ms. Chagnon joined Bitstream in July, 1997. She has served as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and General Counsel of Bitstream since August, 1998.
